Tradition in autumn
During the authentic "Viehabtrieb", animals are brought down into the village from their summer pastures high up in the surrounding mountains. This event is held at a very early date at the beginning of September. It always starts with the big Axams sheep drive, when an impressive bustle of hundreds of sheep, goats, rams and tiny lambs accompanied by shepherds and helpers wander down the main road in Axams to the assembly point on the outskirts of the village. A few days later, the impressive, well-fed herds of cattle return home from their alpine pastures. The Kirchtagsschnöller (whip crackers) from Axams are also at the event and show off their whip cracking skills during the traditional "Goassl Schnöll'n" display.
