Forecast

An area of low pressure is spreading over Central Europe and we are under its influence, unfortunately. We will therefore see changing, but mostly dense cloud with occasional showers.

Tendency

Behind today’s weather fronts, the airflow will quickly swing to the south and bring us once again warm, subtropical air masses. Under the influence of foehn winds, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday will be warm.

24 hours of diverse alpine urban adventures

Experience more. In just one day. Innsbruck in 24 hours.

Do you only have one day? This is still enough to discover the main hotspots in Innsbruck. First pick up an Innsbruck Card and then let the exciting adventures in Innsbruck begin.

The historic old town

Just outside the eastern entrance of Innsbruck's historic old town, you'll find the Imperial Gardens. This beautiful park is ideal for walks, picnics or a relaxing break. A pond and an art pavilion complete the truly picturesque setting. Opposite the park is the Imperial Palace, which owes its current appearance to Empress Maria Theresa. From the palace, you can turn and walk through the arch into Innsbruck's historic old town. Just few steps further along the road you come to the Golden Roof. This landmark was once a splendid balcony for Emperor Maximilian and is decorated with strange inscriptions, magnificent reliefs and curious figures. If you continue straight on again from there, you come to the River Inn. Alternatively, the road beside the Golden Roof takes you to the cathedral on Domplatz square. Our tip: Continue along Herzog-Friedrich-Straße road towards the edge of the historic old town. This is the "epicentre" of Innsbruck where you can stroll through the city's famous arcades. When you reach the edge of the old town, you come to a wide boulevard lined with shops and cafés: Maria Theresien Street.

The main street

Maria Theresien Street is ideal for a shopping spree or a stop at one of the many sidewalk cafes. The road was once a suburb but today it forms the centre of Innsbruck's lively city life. The street is lined with magnificent buildings that used to be palaces owned by old noble families. Today, these buildings are no longer stately family residences and are instead home to shops, galleries, restaurants, bars and offices. Shopping fans flock to Kaufhaus Tyrol opposite St. Anne's column or enjoy browsing the shops in the Rathausgalerien shopping centre. At the end of Maria Theresien Street is the Triumphal Arch, which was designed according to the wishes of Empress Maria Theresa with one joyful and one sad side.

The mountain

If you want to experience Innsbruck from above, we highly recommend a trip to the Seegrube or Hafelekar on the Nordkette mountain range – it’s quick and easy to get there on the Nordkettenbahnen lifts and cable cars. However, if time is too tight, there is another way to get up above the city: the medieval City Tower. This tower has to be climbed on foot but the views of the old town and surrounding mountains are well-worth the 133 steps. If you decide to treat yourself to a trip up to the Nordkette mountain range, why not enjoy the delicious culinary delights 2,000 metres above sea level? Take quick selfie by the cross on the summit of the Hafelekar, 2,334 metres above sea level, and then stop off at the Alpine Zoo with its amazing alpine wildlife in large enclosures on your way back down into Innsbruck. Also highly recommended for a nice afternoon walk!

Did you know?

Lugging heavy bags around and having your hands full is a thing of the past: the lockers provided by citylocker.store at the heart of Innsbruck city centre offer individual solutions for storing your luggage, allowing you to enjoy a stress-free stroll around the city.
