Family hikes

Exploring the easy hiking trails in the mountains around Innsbruck is a wonderful way to spend your holiday and also lots of fun for children. Select a route from our network of family-friendly trails. Most family hikes include special highlights for children – either along the route or at the destination. For example playgrounds, an enchanted forest or flowing water to splash around in and discover nature.

The Finstertal route

Take the DreiSeenBahn chairlift to the mountain lift station and follow the route via the DreiSeenHütte mountain hut to the southern end of the Finster Valley reservoir. There are several options for the return hike: you can either hike back to the mountain lift station and take the lift down or hike back to Kühtai by following either the Stauseestraße road or the hiking trail.

A spring hike in the Anger Valley

This leisurely circular hike takes us from the picturesque village of Wildermieming, through the idyllic Anger Valley to the Gerhardhof, where it is possible to stop for a break and a bite to eat. The small streams, sparse woodland and alpine meadows dotted with the first colourful flowers of the year will fill you with the joys of spring. On the way back, the route passes farm shops where you can buy local products.

This hike starts from Lehnbach car park and leads through a large area of pastures, following a forest road that climbs gently uphill to the Stöttlalm mountain hut. The rustic mountain hut offers refreshments and regional delicacies and features a terrace with magnificent views that stretch over the Mieming Plateau and all the way to the Stubai Alps. From there, follow the forest road that runs parallel to the golf course until you come to a paved road. The hike continues along a path that leads off to the right past the Greenvieh restaurant and the Alpenresort Schwarz. It then continues past the Josefskapelle chapel and fountain, where you can fill your bottle with top quality spring water. The last stretch back to the car park passes the petting zoo at the Alpenresort and gives you the opportunity to take a look around Steirer's farm shop.

Hiking and walking through the fields around Götzens

Enjoy stunning panoramic views of the surrounding alpine landscapes. This easy walk leads from Kirchplatz square in Götzens along Burgstrasse road, crosses the main road to the M-Preis supermarket and then continues from there through the "Götzner Felder" fields. There is a children's playground along the way, and plenty of other interesting places and gems to admire and enjoy. One very special ensemble: the baroque Field Chapel with its wayside cross. A paved and well-maintained hiking and walking route - 4 km.   

Gries - Juifenau (1)

This route leads past the fire station and along the "Rodelweg" (toboggan run) to Juifenau.

Gries - Narötz (24)

Pass the fire station and follow the stream to the Reichenhöfe farm buildings. From there, cross the Melachbrücke bridge, follow the road for 50 metres and then turn right to the hamlet of Narötz. At this point, you can either a) continue straight on to Kniepiss and Praxmar or Lüsens. Or b) take access road 24 a to the district of Juifenau in Gries. From there, follow the Panoramaweg trail no. 1 back to Gries.

Gries - Panoramablick viewpoint (21a)

On the path to Obermarendebach, turn left just before the bridge and follow the trail that leads uphill along the edge of the Marendebach streambed. The viewpoint is located above the mountain lift station of the small Sonnenberg drag lift and has stunning views of the village and the Lüsens Valley.

Cross the bridge by the fire station and then turn left to follow the path to Untermarendebach. This route leads you through alpine meadows and fields to the village of Sellrain.

Gries - Kreuzlehn - St. Sigmund (20a)

Follow the hiking trail "Blick über Gries" (route no. 20) to the hamlet of Bichl. There, branch off to the right and take the Höhenweg trail, following it below the Kreuzlehnhöfe farm buildings to the Kühtaier Landesstraße road. Walk along the road for about 500 metres and then cross the Zirmbach stream after the Koflerkreuz cross to join the Panoramaweg trail no. 2.

Gries - Kundl - Lüsens - Praxmar (25a)

Starting at the fire station in Gries, walk towards Juifenau. Cross the bridge, continue past the sports ground and then follow the forest road until it meets the path to the Juifenalm mountain hut. Follow this path until you come to the fourth bend, where you'll see a signpost for Lüsens/Praxmar. Turn off at this point to follow the hiking trail to the Kundlhof. From there, you can continue the hike past two fish ponds to Lüsens or Praxmar. To return to Gries, either follow the same route back or take the bus.
