A sunny spot on Patscherkofel mountain with views of Innsbruck and the Nordkette mountain range. The village is a good starting point for hikes, close to the ski slopes of Patscherkofel ski resort and home to bike trails up to idyllic mountain huts. Igls is an equally nice place to visit in both summer and winter. Everything is possible from ski holidays to bobsledding down an Olympic ice track. In summer, there are plenty of enticing hikes and a modern riding centre that offers hacks through the picturesque landscapes of the surrounding alpine plateau.

Archaeology in the open air

The Goldbichl is an excavation site located on a small hill between Igls/Vill and the neighbouring village of Patsch. It is a mystical place that was used 4,000 years ago as a ritual site for burning offerings. Follow the archaeology trail with its illustrated information boards and go on a journey into the past. The boards line the route to the prehistoric site and give an insight into the period from 2000 BC to 1500 BC.

Olymics in Igls

Igls became particularly famous for its Olympic history; several competitions were held there in 1964 and 1976, including the legendary Olympic downhill race when Franz Klammer won Olympic gold on the slopes of the Patscherkofel.

Bobsleigh Igls

The ice track in Igls has also been the scene of many fast moments and still holds international competitions in bobsleigh, luge and skeleton today. Guests can try the high-speed sport of bobsleigh in a guest bobsleigh with a professional pilot.

Famous Igls

Igls was already known in the Middle Ages as an ideal destination for relaxation. Visitors back then made the journey for the healing baths. In the 19th and 20th centuries, Igls was a renowned health resort and popular among the people of Innsbruck as a rejuvenating summer retreat.
