When the summer heat is at its peak in the Inn Valley, a way to cool off is never far away in the Innsbruck region: on the Nordkette, close to the city, the cool mountain air quickly provides relief. Walks through shady gorges, along babbling brooks or at altitudes of over 2,000 metres – such as in Kühtai – offer a welcome break on hot days. Natural swimming lakes invite you to take a dip in the wonderfully cool water. And you can keep a cool head in the city too: within historic walls, in green parks and in air-conditioned museums.
Refreshment awaits here
Whether high up in the mountains, within cool walls or by the water – the Innsbruck region offers plenty of places and ways to escape the heat.
A walk through the gorge along the Ehnbach is well worth the effort: as well as a chance to cool off, you’ll also find some extraordinary flora and fauna.
A summer retreat on Innsbruck’s local mountain: breathe in the crisp air at the summit and relax on the terraces of the mountain restaurants or at an alpine hut.
Far from the stifling air in the valley, the starting point of this walk is already at an altitude of 2,020 metres. Along the way, mountain lakes tempt you to dip your feet in.
Summer heat outside, the delights of Baroque music inside: historic churches, Ambras Castle and the Hofburg provide refreshing venues for music.
