Just before you reach the mountain hut, you’ll come to a fork in the path. From there, turn right to follow the Hintereggensteig trail, which takes you steeply uphill to another crossroads. The Hohlweg trail in Obsteig/Gschwent

Up until 40 years ago, local farmers drove the cattle that weren't grazing in alpine pastures along the Hohlweg to the Obsteiger Fraktion area and the Ochsenlede (west of the location) twice a week. Today, the path is used for recreation and serves as a reminder of how important agriculture is for the preservation of our local habitats. At the upper end of the trail, a small drinking trough was created on the edge of a wetland, an artificial reservoir now offers dragonflies and other aquatic insects a valuable secondary habitat.

From Arzkasten car park, walk past the guesthouse, turn right after the fountain and then follow the trail north towards the "Alpsteig Marienbergalm". The first part of the Alpsteig trail is steep and leads up through the forest. Follow the path as it leads you over wooden bridges across small streams and through alpine pastures to the Marienbergalm mountain hut. From there, take the forest road to the Marienbergjoch ridge. Shortly before the highest point, a well-marked trail branches off to the right. Follow this trail through the pine trees. The steep rock faces of the Mieming Range rise up to your left and give the hike a real high alpine feel. Continue along the safe path (no. 29) to Hölltörl, where you can collect a stamp. From there, a trail branches off to Höllkopf peak (2,126 m), which is about 60 metres away. At the summit, you will be rewarded with wonderful panoramic views and can add your name to the summit log. After hiking back down from the summit to Hölltörl, follow the trail that leads down across the steep scree slope to the foot of the scree fields. The circular hike now branches off to the right and leads you along a trail to a water catchment facility, where the path widens and continues to the Lehnberghaus mountain hut. Continue down into the valley and turn right to join a trail that leads through a small area of woodland and then along a stream towards the entrance of the valley. After just under 45 minutes, this path joins a forest road that leads you leisurely back to the starting point.

From Schlotthof in Innsbruck, this tour takes you via Bildstöcklweg to the chapel at Höttinger Bild. This small pilgrimage destination is situated in an idyliic forest, next to a bubbling spring. From here, it's along a relatively flat and pleasant forest path to Hungerburg. For those who don't wish to head into Innsbruck on foot, the Hungerburgbahn cable car will take you directly into the city centre. An alternative would be by passing the city's alpine zoo (Alpenzoo), where a quick stop to view various animals sich as bears, lynxes and birds of prey is always worth doing.
